Acne Scar Skin Care

visit clear for life hereIt is a well known fact that acne affects most people at some stage in their lives. Appearance of acne causes not only mental disturbances but also causes other after effects in the form of scars. Though most scars can be treated using various medications, some scars, which permanently disfigure the face may require surgeries. In order to examine some acne scar skin care methods, we need to first understand the categories under which acne scars are classified.

Small marks left on the skin after the treatment of acne, also known as lesions, heal automatically within a year. Occurrence of such lesions can be prevented by the use of good sunscreen lotions, and formulations containing the right combinations of alpha-hydroxy acids and beta-hydroxy acids. Mild scars can also be treated using chemically formulated peel off masks and common home based acne scar skin care methods. A few examples include applying lemon juice, honey, fresh cucumbers and lavender oil on the scars. Such remedies heal the itching sensation caused by acne.

A very important fact to note here is that the dry scabs which are left after the acne is healed should not be picked because doing this will increase the healing time required for such early scars. For the purpose of acne scar skin care, deep scars are classified into icepick scars, boxcar scars and rolling scars. Icepick scars extend deep into the dermis layer of the skin, and are less than 2mm narrow. Boxcar scars extend only till 0.1-0.5mm into the dermis layer of the skin and appear in the form of oval depressions on the skin. Rolling scars occur deep inside the subcutaneous tissue. Such scars create a wavy texture on the skin.

For scars which are shallow, acne scar skin care treatments such as dermabrasion and laser resurfacing are used by dermatologists. Substances such as human and bovine collagen, hyaluronic acid derivates and fat are also used to fill the depressions caused by acne, through injections. Laser resurfacing involves burning the skin to a certain depth so that the affected area develops new skin. However, post surgical care is necessary for this treatment.

Several punching techniques are also adopted by dermatologists to cure icepick or box acne scars. Under this treatment cutter tools, matching the measurements of the scars are used to punch the affected area and the edges of the depression are stitched together. Replacing the punctured area with a skin graft taken from behind the ear is also a viable treatment. Rolling scars are treated through a method called subcutaneous incision, under which a needle is inserted under the skin to cut the skin bands that are connected to the subcutaneous layer.

For surgical acne scar skin care treatments, proper post operative care is required. Most procedures require 5-14 days to recover. During this period, patients must follow the instructions as advised by the dermatologist by avoiding sunlight, using topical antibiotics and avoiding heavy exercise. It also has to be kept in mind that all such treatments come at a high price. Therefore we need to carefully study the mechanics of each procedure on the basis of affordability, recovery time and suitability before we choose one.
