Pimple Treatments
It is a very well known fact that pimples are generally a mild form of
acne. Typically, they appear as blackheads and whiteheads. When pimples become pus formed cysts they become
difficult to cure. Let us take a look at some of the most popular pimple treatments in the order of their
usage by pimple sufferers.
Over the counter products namely - Creams, gels, face washes, herbal face packs and soaps are
probably the first treatments that are tried out by people who are affected by pimples. Most over the counter
products contain azelaic acid and hyaluronic acid which help in increasing the skin’s natural collagen and tighten
the skin. Over the counter products are freely available without prescriptions. Well known brands can be tried
depending on the severity of the pimples. Over usage should, however, be avoided as it may cause adverse
effects.
Home remedies - When over the counter products do not help in curing pimples, most individuals
resort to home based pimple treatments. Ingredients used for home based remedies range from, toothpaste, lime
juice, orange peels, honey, papaya paste, clay packs to all fruits and vegetables. Certain diet restrictions like
avoiding fried foods and including fresh vegetables are also part of home remedies. Intake of vitamin tablets like
Vitamin A, B, C and zinc can be included under home based treatments for pimples. Home remedies can be safely tried
along with other chemical treatments without causing any side effects.

Oral and prescription medicines - These pimple treatments, which include both oral and topical
treatments, can be taken only on the basis of prescriptions provided by dermatologists and only when pimples do not
respond to over the counter products. Topical applications include benzoyl peroxide and salicyclic acid. Oral
medications are retin-A, isotretinonin, tetracycline, and birth control pills. Dermatologists will usually
prescribe a combination of drugs to increase the efficiency of the treatment. Such treatments are considered for
moderate to severe pimples only. It has to be kept in mind that all such drugs cause a range of side effects, such
as dizziness, rashes, dryness of skin, mild nausea and redness. Users need to adopt all precautionary measures
before and after undertaking such treatments.
Surgical Procedures - When deep cystic pimples do not respond to both over the counter and oral
treatments, surgical procedures have to be adopted to cure pimples and acne. Various surgical procedures have been
introduced thanks to some highly advanced technology. They include dermabrasion, surgical incision, punch incision
and light therapy. Most often these procedures require the patient to sit through 3-6 sessions to see an effective
result. Surgical procedures are not only expensive, but various other factors such as proper diet, post operative
care are required to sustain the results.
Alternative Treatments - Most often, a combination of any of the above treatments controls the
appearance of pimples. However, other unconventional methods are slowly emerging as pimple treatments. The
effectiveness and the workings of such treatments have not been clearly established, hence, leading to ignorance
and reluctance in adopting them. New approaches include homeopathy, yoga, acupuncture, hypnosis, acupressure and
mind and cognitive therapy. Identifying internal causes of pimples and acne, which may be stress, diet, hormonal
problems and healing the body internally is the common factor governing all alternative treatments. Such approaches
too require regular sessions by patients to see tangible results.
